This is part of a series of stories written in the words of the athlete telling how he or she trained for UWI half and presented on our blog. This race is beginning to gain momentum most of the training areas in and around the country you can see people training almost every time of the day.
Let find out how they trained for UWI half.
Our first UWI SPEC International Marathon participants who will tell you - How he trained for UWI half is Darren Cole.
How I trained for UWI Half
My training for the UWI Half Marathon has been pretty simple. The major component has been the Sunday morning long run with the Carifin Team in Training. This has greatly improved my endurance and overall performance. In addition, I try to maintain three (3) training sessions per week. These involve strength training, core work and running shorter distances to increase speed. My nutrition has also been an important factor. I try not to consume much fast food and I eat enough carbohydrates and fruit (especially bananas) to keep me going. Finally, I drink lots of water and try to get enough rest.
Darren Cole of Unit Trust Corporation is an ardent runner and sports enthusiast. He has represented UTC in CariFin 2007, placing 24th overall in a time of 40:09.( Just for some comparative analysis, the winner Nikosi Mc Leish finished in 25:27.)
Darren is presently in training with – CariFin Team in training for UWI International Half Marathon, which takes place on Sunday November 02, 2008. Reading his blog profile you see where he says he enjoys the Duathlon and maybe he may try the triathlon some day
But today we like to like to introduce Darren with reference to his blogging skills. But those who come late to the party might ask, “What is blogging?”
A blog is a frequently updated, personal website featuring diary-type commentary and links to articles on other Web sites. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects. Many blogs focus on a particular topic, such as web design, home staging, sports, or mobile technology. So with that out of the way…
How did Darren come to this party?
Darren has been a frequent commentator on fun, fitness & friendship blog (CariFin) and you will notice him giving his views on some discussion boards on facebook. He took like a duck to water. Darren’s first blog posting- ‘Darren’s Run’- fitted just right into a much need niche. What I mean is, he was able to amalgamate all the places on the internet where you can find local races in Trinidad. Of course like I said before there were always places to find races before like Odessey and Road Runners and sometimes I will post an update of events, but it was kind of hit and miss and here and there with other company sites that pick up the slack.
But what Darren has done is to bring them all together in one posting, giving full insight into how to find running information in Trinidad and Tobago. The last time I checked ‘Darren’s Run’ he had just added part II a continuation to his first posting. It is good to see what is happening in our running space; Darren is the latest to join a few others who have blogs and have some community running/fitness info that we can all share and enjoy. I had featured Melissa Berkley a few weeks ago and there was also Adisa Kamuzu. So Darren it is nice to introduce you to the running, fitness/active life community of the financial services sector
