John Donaldson at UWI International Half Marathon 07
The runner with the third fastest time on CariFin/NV Team in Training for UWI half is John Donaldson of GRACE KENNEDY. This was someone who came to the training session of “CariFin/NV Team in Training for UWI half marathon” not sure if he would run the actual race. Just maybe a week before race date he satisfied himself that he is going to run the race. And based on the work he put out in training before race day he had the confidence that he should be one of the runners that would cross the finish line for the UWI International Half Marathon 07.
He finished the race in a decent time of 1.38.35.
Nikosi Mc Leish
Nikosi Mc Leish of RBTT stuck to his own personal plan for this race - run his own race.
After Rodney Julien went on ahead Nikosi knew long before hand what he had to do.
His intentions, not to run any mile over 8 minutes, he said “It must be under eight minutes.”
At the end he was satisfied with his effort which was an improvement of 6.11 minutes over his 2006 time of 1.41.8. He completed this year’s race in 1.34.55.
Proposed dates for CariFin 2008.

We are please to report about our participation at UWI Half Marathon.
People who set and achieve their goals… and in the process create new land marks
This is coverage about the UWI International half marathon, held on November 04, 2007.
Here we feature - Rodney Julien
The first male finisher - in “CariFin Team in Training” for UWI International Half Marathon.
This man had a big day. Said what he wanted to do and went out and did it, in a no nonsense way. He walk (run) the talk. (No pun intended). Plain and simple.
He and Nikosi Mc Leish (CariFin 2007 winner) was running together side by side from the start up until the second mile and Rodney finding the pace too comfortable for him told Nikosi, “ah stepping it up, later!” and moved away.
What was his plan, what he came to do at UWI half?
“I plan to run at 6 -7 minutes per mile.”
On he went in that 6 something zone.
He finished the race in 1.29.42
CariFin/NV - Team in Training for UWI International Half Marathon - Report
UWI half lived up to the expectation of the average runner yet again as the best road race in the Caribbean. From very early in the morning - we the runner felt that the administrators were going out there to put every thing in place for us to have an enjoyable race. As the morning unfold, as the light of day shone through, more and more it became clear that this would be a good race. The expectation was there, the teams and persons responsible for setting up the course, water, timing chip, police was already on site, together with the soldiers who made up a big part of the volunteers on the day. Activities and action was all around us, Companies who had to sample products was coming in; our own sponsors Nature Valley Granola and Gatorade were on site setting up to market and promote their products.
Read on as we present a brief description of some of the top performers for the team
Please reach at the UWI half marathon for 4.00 a.m. I had previously suggested 5.00 a.m. but upon talking with Patricia Charles of the UWI organizing committee and Jason Gooding of Odessey Timing both emphasize reaching early as 4.00 a.m. Reasons being -
You need to collect your timing chip and because of the number of participants in the race you will have to arrive about two hours before to line up.
The process requires you to take your number to collect your chip and have it scanned at attached to your foot.
There are approximately 1000 runners who will have to share in this process. So you could easily have yourself stressed out just standing in line, not be able to warming up, rushing to the start line and generally feeling miserable before the start and going into the race totally out of your game plan ….
