Richard Jones goes after qualifying times for World Half Marathon
The NAAA is holding its trial for the IAAF World Half Marathon championship on Sunday August 10, 2008 at Chaguaramas at 6.00 am.
IAAF World Half Marathon championship is schedule to be held in Rio Brazil on October 12, 2008.
Most of the top male and female runners would be on show to select a team to represent at this Championship.
The qualifying time for the male runners was drop from 1hour 12 minutes to 1hour 10 minutes and the women from 1hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes.
This qualifying race would be difficult indeed with just one or two of the runners qualifying with the lowered qualifying time required.
It would be interesting to see what the results and times would be.
Curtis Cox did 1.14.51 and Jules La Rode followed in 1.14.52
Among the women Shermin Lasaldo is the only one that has the pedigree to go under 1hr 25 minutes as she did 1.25.37 at the World Half marathon Championship in Italy last year.
Christine Regis did 1.28.50.
Nikosi Mc Leish of RBTT Bank, CariFin 2008 male champion and holder of three consecutive wins RBTT Bank 5K male champion would be among the starters in Sunday’s race.
If the NAAA has lowered the qualifying times for the World half Marathon, then it would be an act of futility for many of these runners turning up in Chaguaramas for this trial. Just a mere sweat.
