A Caribbean Invasion
The City of Port of Spain 4K Run which is taking place on Sunday August 17, 2008 and starting at the Woodford Square at 1.00 pm is some how would definite Caribbean Flavor.
The top Caribbean runner Pamenos Ballantyne would be at the starting line. Adding to the Caribbean arsenal would be the top two runners from Guyana – Keston Johnson and Lionel Dandrade.
The local front is well represented by a line-up headed by Jules La Rode, Brian Maynard, Curtis Cox and Kenrick Williams. It would be keen to see that match – up
The big man in the business Richard Jones will rest out this one after posting the only – IAAF World Half Marathon qualifying time of 1.10 last week Sunday at Chaguaramas.
The last time Jones raced Ballantyne it was at the Granny Lucess 15K and Jones out sprinted Ballantyne to win this race in 52.18, while Ballantyne finished in 52.21.
The women would most likely see out front are Kerticha John, Christine Regis and probably Janelle Nedd.
The fact that most of the serious/top runners have probably just started their long run campaigns for the upcoming UWI International Half marathon they may be quite unwilling to leave out their training at this stage for this short 4K.
That may be factor on the quality of the field that would be out on Sunday for the City of Port of Spain 4K fun run.
Come in a couple of days and you will see a video report of the event
